Auckland is home to two main rat species: the Norway rat (larger, typically nesting at ground level) and the Roof rat (smaller, preferring higher elevations like attics). Both species are extremely adaptable and thrive in urban and suburban environments.
Rats are highly intelligent with excellent memory, making them challenging to control once established. A female rat can produce up to 60 offspring annually, which means a small problem can quickly become a major infestation.
